Welcome to the DeWitt Carter Public School Website. We hope this website will further strengthen the connection between school, home, and our community. DeWitt Carter Public School is located on Fares Street in Port Colborne. We are the only public school located on the East Side of the Welland Canal. DeWitt Carter is currently hometo over 230 students from junior Kindergarten to Grade eight. For a more in depth history of DeWitt Carter Public School, please have a look at our School History Page.

Our school will be visited by Niagara Region Public Health to provide FREE dental screenings. These services are recommended to identify any urgent dental issues and connect families to free dental programs. Niagara’s drinking water does not have fluoride added, and it is recommended that children and infants have regular treatments from the time their first teeth appear.

Dental screenings consist of a quick look in the mouth using a sterilized dental mirror for each child

  • If your child is wearing a mask, they will only remove their mask 20 - 30 seconds
  • This screening does not replace your child’s regular visits with a dentist
  • You will be notified by letter if your child needs urgent dental care or preventive dental services (cleanings, dental sealants or fluoride varnish)

IMPORTANT: Please contact us EACH year if you DO NOT want your child(ren) to participate in the dental screening by phone at 905-688-8248 or 1-888-505-6074 ext. 7962 or complete our online School Dental Screening Non-Participation Form.

Public Health is also able to link eligible children to free dental services through the Healthy Smiles Ontario program.

To speak to a public health dental professional, call 905-688-8248 ext. 7399 or Live Chat with the Dental Team.
